Through the Palestine project I met Layan, a 15 year old girl living in Gaza with her family. We now speak every day, and manage to have a laugh despite enduring/witnessing a genocide. She loves photography, and I wanted to give her a platform to share her art and show her daily life in Palestine.
As the world watches Gaza, it is primarily depicted from outside, with images selected and shown by Western media outlets. This, to me, is what highlights the importance of giving power to Palestinians to represent themselves, to capture and share their life as they choose. Providing this gallery for Layan’s is my effort to do so.
